Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya officially sought bail at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court this morning, facing severe allegations including the rape of an 18-year-old woman, human trafficking, and sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl.
His lawyer, Estelle Kilian, stated that Sibiya maintains a stance of not guilty, describing the charges as "false and trumped up." Conversely, the prosecution is firmly opposing bail due to the involvement of a minor, which brings strict legal requirements under Schedule 6.
While Sibiya denied wrongdoing, his affidavit acknowledged a sexual encounter with the 18-year-old at a Sandton hotel, but he strongly contested the claim that she was incapacitated by alcohol. He maintains the encounter was entirely consensual, stating that no force, threat, pressure, or manipulation was ever used.
Furthermore, address claims by the State regarding a "cabal" linked to him that has allegedly tried to meddle in the case by threatening victims and witnesses, Sibiya firmly denied these allegations, stating he has never instructed anyone to intimidate individuals or tamper with evidence.
đź“… Key Date: His next bail hearing is scheduled for Thursday, 1 October 2026.
